Post subject: Would European Union ban Cigarettes Colors and Log
European Union is considering a proposal to prohibit image on cigarette packs, including logos and colors, obliging cigarette manufacturers to sell their products in plain, black-and-white packages.
Under to the introduced measure,
original marlboro cigarettes
, packages of cigarettes and other tobacco products would have to carry a health warning and the name of the brand, written in plain letters.
rew Lansley, Head of The UK Department of Public Health, admitted that plain tobacco packages would make smoking less luring for adolescents and guard them from taking up smoking. Yet, the Association of Tobacco Manufacturers is opposing the measure, stating that there is no reliable evidence proving that plain packaging would be an effective public health measure.
The International Advertising Association (IAA) has warned the EU Parliament that the prohibition of on-pack trademarks would violate trade agreements. Erich Buxbaum, IAA vice president acknowledged that all tobacco brands are official trademarks, and prohibiting them would result in legal action tobacco industry would definitely initiate against the EU. He mentioned that cigarette companies pay billions each year for the usage of their trademarks.
